What is Step Up for Students?
Step Up For Students is a Florida scholarship program designed to provide financial support for K-12 students, enabling families to choose educational options that best fit their child’s learning needs — including unique abilities and personalized education plans.
Personalized Education Program (PEP)
Florida families who choose a home education or nontraditional learning path for their K–12 students may qualify for the Personalized Education Program (PEP) through the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship. This program is available to eligible students regardless of household income, as long as they are not enrolled full-time in a public or private school.
The PEP scholarship provides families with an Education Savings Account (ESA) that can be used to support a customized educational experience, including approved learning materials, services, and programs. Students must be 5 years old by September 1 of the school year in which they plan to participate.
Unique Abilities (UA)
The Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities is available to Florida students ages 3 through grade 12, or up to age 22 with a qualifying diagnosis. This scholarship allows families to personalize their child’s education by using funds for approved services such as curriculum, tutoring, home education programs, therapists, specialists, private school tuition, and more—ensuring each child receives the support they need to succeed.
